Specs

Rod Power Explained

Ultralight through extra heavy and how to match power to line and lure weight.

Reel Size Guide

What 2500, 3000, and other reel sizes mean for balance and capacity.

Gear Ratio Guide

How reel speed changes lure control, hooksets, and retrieve style.

Line Types Breakdown

Monofilament vs braid vs fluorocarbon and when to use each.

Reel Specifications

Technical definitions of reel specs and their measurements.

Reel Size

A numerical designation indicating the physical size and spool capacity of the reel. Higher numbers indicate larger reels with greater line capacity and heavier overall weight.

Gear Ratio

The ratio of spool rotations to handle rotations, expressed as X:1. This determines how much line is retrieved per handle turn.

Maximum Drag

The maximum resistance force, measured in pounds, that the drag system can apply before automatically releasing line under tension.

Ball Bearings

The number of ball bearings within the reel mechanism that reduce friction and provide smooth operation during rotation.

Line Capacity

The maximum amount of fishing line that can be spooled onto the reel, typically specified for different line types and pound tests.

Reel Type

The mechanical design category that determines how line is dispensed from the spool: spinning, baitcasting, or conventional.
